This is One Great Book
"When I was sixteen years of age I traded the golden harvestfields of grain for the red harvestfields of death." With these words the book Harvestfields of Death begins the epic journey of the men of the Twentieth Indiana Volunteers through the Civil War. An heroic regiment and an equally heroic endeavor to write this history. Craig Dunn is becoming the finest Civil War historian of his generation.

Highland Settler; A Portrait of the Scottish Gael in Nova Scotia
Published in Paperback by Formac (June, 1953)
Author: Charles Dunn
Average review score:

Fantastic look into the life of the Scots Gaeltach in Americ
Highland Settler, with its look into the difficulty of life of the Scots, driven from their land by the English, is a memorable look into frontier life (to the recent past) of an honorable people. The struggles against trees; the pride and perseverance; the discrimination. It's described in this well written documentary, sadly out of print. It also gives me an appreciation of my forefathers in this new land. Dr. P.J. Deason

A History of the Evangelical and Reformed Church
Published in Paperback by Pilgrim Pr (October, 1990)
Authors: David Dunn and Lowell H. Zuck
Average review score:

A wonderful survey of this church's history.
This was a great survey of the histories of the German reformed Church in America and of the Evangelical Synod both prior to and after the merger of the two churches in 1934. Being a Wisconsin pastor of a former E + R church, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the German settlements in this area and how Mission House Seminary was established by the Reformed Church to train pastors for this area. I also loved reading about the founding of the Neilsville Indian school, and the starting up of what would later become the Eden Theological Seminary.

Yet the book was also haunting because much of the history was first written in the wake of the assimilation of the E + R church into what is now known as the United Church of Christ. In the book itself, you can feel the optimism the leaders of the E+ R church had about the union with the more liberal Congregational Christian churches. Now I wonder how many of them who are still alive secretly wish that the union had never happened. Since that time, the churches have been plagued with liberal Protestant pastors who have lacked the commitment to the infallibility and authority of scripture that prior generations of Reformed pastors always held fast to. This rejection of scriptural authority has led to a theological and moral malaise within the UCC that has led to the present day apostasy now apparent in the mainline denominations nationwide; including support for unbiblical concepts such as abortion on demand, homosexual relationships, religious pluralism, the use of mission monies for left wing political causes rather than for the propagating of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and unholy alliances with other religions which call into question the supremacy and absolute lordship of Jesus Christ over the nations.

Review of 'I Was Born to Be a Sister'
This is a delightful story written by a 12 year old 6th grader living in Washington, D.C. about her own life. Written as a picture book with realistic colorful drawings, this story will appeal to most big sisters. Akaela can't wait to be a sister. But she quickly finds that babies aren't as much fun when they grow into toddlers. This book presents a positive view of family life and is a good readaloud for young children.

I'm a Baby (Cuddle Books)

BIG ATTENTION GRABBER! TODDLERS LOVE IT!
Beautiful, photographic pictures of a wide variety of babies and toddlers, mostly caucasian. See the baby eat, play with her toes, take a bath, pull off socks, take a first step and blow out a first birthday candle.

I bought this book when my daughter was a toddler. It was (and still is) one of her all time favorites. My daughter is now 11 years old and shares this book with our young neighbors. They all love looking at pictures of babies, like themselves.

I highly recommend this book for infants through preschool.

Very Insightful-Great Read For Women of All Stages & Ages
I was very impressed by the women in this book, and more importantly, the issues they addressed. Trying to balance personal and professional lives is never easy, and several of the women had great pieces of advice on doing just this. Although there is never a way to truly "have everything," this book explores some very intriguing women and provides some very useful career advice.
